This is an excellent text offering an overview of all the various ways that programmers leave holes in their software that malicious hackers (Black Hat Hackers) can use to attack software. The simple examples demonstrate how a malicious hacker would write code to attack your system, and infiltrate your systems to gather information for criminal activity or use.The author includes suggestions and examples of how to avoid programming these types of vulnerabilities into your software projects. In today's age, more often than not, fixing "bugs" in programs is based on the business model of a Return-On-Investment (ROI). As a result, coding vulnerabilities are often left in place to avoid the expense and time required to track issues, re-code, and test the software.Unfortunately, after reading this text, I realize that the problems didn't start with the business model, but with how programmers are trained. Beginning students of programming are not made aware of the concerns presented in this text, and how to correct for them until much later, IF at all, in their training. As a result, students will form bad-habits in their coding paradigm that this text addresses. This text or similar needs to be a mandate for beginning programmers. I, certainly, wish that my professors and mentors had brought the topics contained in this book to my attention as a beginning student in the field. This text has a permanent place in my library.Respectfully,MJR

You could probably read the book in about 2 - 4 days. The writing style is clean, concise, and straightforward. While there are code examples in C and C++, you could easily understand nearly everything the author says about security (if you have a programming background in general). What he says is spot on and combines a fair amount of software code security knowledge in one place. What is important is to be aware of several of these issues which could assist you in evaluating software, understanding some of the risks with software, and if you write code (even if it is in Java, C#, Ruby, PHP or whatever) to be aware of the consequences of certain code writing styles and choices.

This is a good start into thinking more securely as a programmer. I think it's important knowledge if you regularly program in C/C++. Everyone who's used the language knows that "pointers can get you into trouble," but knowing exactly what can be used against your lack of oversight is a much more concrete motivation to pay attention. If you're one of those punk kids who always wants to know why you follow proper practices, read it. These languages give you freedom under the assumption you know what you're doing, and this book definitely helps. That said, I think while its initial impact is significant, it's value drops significantly after the first read, as its lessons are more philosophical than a reference. Unless you're loaning it out to punk kids you work with who need to stop recklessly managing memory. If you or someone you know thinks C is anything but a cold harsh mistress with no more attachment to you than your goldfish, this book is probably for you.An intermediate knowledge of a C language is necessary, although I'd say memory of irresponsible design decisions helps reinforce the material better.

I suspect that over half the material is background about aspects of programming. So much so that this book could almost serve as a reference to the C language and its libraries. The material about secure programming is fine, but I would like more of that and less of the other.

Slightly old, but detailed and accurate

This book is great. It not only goes through how to program c and c++ securely but also discusses how to exploit conditions that occur when these guidelines aren't followed. You will need to know both languages because the book doesn't go in detail to the languages but that is to be expected.

Must read, does some excellent coverage of some code constructs for security. Lots to learn in here.

I received no complaints from the engineered that requested this item from this seller.

The book we've all been waiting for. I've been deeply engaged in this industry since the start of the incredible story that Davenport tells and I can say that this is the most comprehensive and professional treatment of the commercial spaceflight revolution to date. The author is a professional reporter and a fine wordsmith who understands his context and characters. He weaves a tale of adventure, excess and excitement on the final frontier that will keep even non-space cadets enthralled. This is a character based study and is not particularly distracted by the technologies or the data. You won't find the seconds of ISP rating on the latest SpaceX second stage engine configuration or the coefficient of drag on Virgin's VSS Unity. What Davenport does in nail the big personalities and unusual motivations that drive this generations boldest entrepreneurs to go where none have gone before. "Space Barons" is a great summer read for anyone but it is a must-read for any aspiring Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson or Elon Musk. I hope they all. pick it up and are motivated to do impossibly great things someday themselves.

Not long ago, I reviewed Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance, and The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon by Brad Stone. Both books are well done. They're the product of professional journalists who are good at what they do. But neither book comes close to Christian Davenport's superb new book, The Space Barons: Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and the Quest to Colonize the Cosmos, in offering insight into the personality of these two extraordinary men who are the central characters in his book.Illuminating personal detailsThe personal details about the lives of Musk and Bezos are abundant and highly revealing. For example, here is Davenport with an anecdote from the early life of Elon Musk: "He had such concentration that as a toddler in Montessori school, his teachers would have to pick him up—in his chair—to keep him moving from task to task." And this about Bezos: "His girlfriend from high school had once told an interviewer that Bezos had founded Amazon in order to make enough money to start a space company." Davenport notes that Bezos "conceded that there 'is some truth to that.'"The pivotal role of four private space companiesDavenport's subject in The Space Barons is the pivotal role of four billionaires and the private space companies they've started in the emergence of the rejuvenated space industry. All four men envision lowering the cost of space travel and making it more accessible—and Davenport makes clear that they have taken great strides toward this goal. Although Musk and Bezos occupy center stage, Paul Allen (cofounder of Microsoft) and Richard Branson (the Virgin companies) also play large roles. Davenport tells the tale with great assurance in prose that is always lively and engaging. He interviewed all four of his subjects and many of their associates (and critics) as well. This is the remarkable story of four self-made billionaires whose great wealth and passion allowed them to pioneer space technology that NASA had grown too old and bureaucratic to develop itself. If humankind ever succeeds in populating the solar system, historians may conclude that the determination and resources of these men were largely responsible.Four distinctive personalitiesMusk, Bezos, Allen, and Branson are very different from one another, though each is undoubtedly brilliant in his own way, and at least three of the four are science fiction fans. Musk is the youngest of the lot—he was born in 1971—and by far the brashest and most impulsive. His company, SpaceX, has made the biggest splash to date and has generated by far the most revenue, but Musk has a bad habit of setting impossible deadlines for what he envisions as the principal goal of his efforts: building a city of one million people on Mars. He has also gotten his way at times only by suing NASA and the Pentagon. By contrast, Bezos and his company, Blue Origin, have been the tortoise to SpaceX's hare ("Slow is smooth and smooth is fast" as compared to "Head down. Plow through the line.") Bezos' highly secretive company has consistently been wary of publicizing its achievements. Both Musk and Bezos (born in 1964) envision traveling into space on their own rockets. Allen and Branson, who are older—born in 1953 and 1950, respectively—do not contemplate the trip to Mars that Musk hopes to take. Allen's part in the emergence of the new industry was for a time very limited by his fear that lives might be lost in the process; later, however, he staked out a unique project of his own: building a spaceplane larger than any airplane ever built. Branson, who is even more flamboyant than Musk, is all showman and marketer. His contribution was initially to promote the work of aircraft designer Burt Rutan, assuming the controlling interest in Rutan's company in place of Allen and only later getting into the business of building rockets, as Musk and Bezos have been doing for nearly two decades.Differing views of humanity's future in spaceElon Musk is single-mindedly focused on building a large city on Mars. Jeff Bezos does not share this focus. "'There's all kinds of interesting stuff you can do around the solar system,'" he told Davenport, "'but the thing that's going to move the needle for humanity the most is mining near-Earth objects and building manufacturing infrastructure in place . . . That's the big thing.'" Given the obstacles to living on the surface of Mars that I have learned through other reading, I tend to agree with Bezos.About the authorChristian Davenport is a reporter for the Washington Post, which is owned by Jeff Bezos. He acknowledges that it is "somewhat awkward writing a book about someone who could have you fired." However, his editor, Marty Baron, "has made it clear that [the Post] covers Jeff's companies as it would any other" and encouraged him to write the book. The Space Barons is Davenport's second.

The book is written as a chronological story, jumping between the 3 new space companies. Although I see myself as fairly knowledgeable in the history of these companies, there were lots of nuggets that were new to me. It is also well written in a way that also made the stories I already knew fascinating to revisit.

As the U.S. government goes on a wild goose chase for its next goal in space, NASA going around in circles as it complies, the private space industry is now moving in, and not a moment too soon. Since its last voyage to the Moon (Apollo 17) back in 1972, the U.S. and NASA has retreated to Earth orbit, with Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz, and the space shuttle. The shuttle was a noble experiment meant to cut costs and fly to space constantly, but alas, it turned out to be the most expensive and required constant maintenance after each flight. It turned out that in the end, a flight would cost $1.5 billion, and in its run, two ships were destroyed in flight, killing 14 astronauts.Enter the private space industries, that builds rockets from scratch, launches them at one tenth the cost, so far, and reuses the first stage. Virgin Galactic, being in the tourist business, launches their ships from an airplane at 35,000 feet all the way up to the beginning of suborbital space. This book focuses on three industrialists: Elon Musk, of SpaceX (and Tesla), Jeff Bezos of Blue Origin, and Richard Branson of Virgin Galactic. Other companies are mentioned, that started but were unsuccessful, but these three are the top space barons, for now.As stated, Richard Branson is focusing on space tourism with Virgin Galactic, but the two competitors are Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, and they are at it like dogs. SpaceX has mostly dominated the headlines, with its Dragon capsule supplying the International Space Station (ISS) and the first stage of the Falcon 9 returning to Earth to be reused, rather than be dumped into the ocean. They've also made the news with the Falcon Heavy, the new Heavy Lift Launch Vehicle, with the hope of eventually reaching Mars.Blue Origin is the quieter company, but they are competing closely with Space X on its own space taxi along with their reusable first stage rockets. These alone make Musk and Bezos fiercely compete and make the race interesting. There are even anecdotes on them being on stage with other executives, but these two avoiding each other like the plague. It's that fierce.Fortunately, it's good for the rest of humanity because the space launch business is finally being made available to the general public, with ever decreasing launch costs, and this alone will finally get the U.S. and all of humanity back into space, the next frontier, this time without an end.As for NASA, my recommendation for them is to completely get out of the launch business and save taxpayer money by leasing rockets from private companies at a fraction of the cost. After a 40 year delay, The Space Barons will help take humanity to the stars.Read the book. It's exciting and filled with tidbits of little known facts, some even amusing, having little to do with space itself (one even involving a gambling casino in Las Vegas), but you see the goings on in the space business.

#1,395,532 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I met Meg in La Guardia as we were both on route to a Cynthia Bourgeault retreat and had plenty of time to get to know one another due to an eleven-hour delay in our flight and an unplanned overnight in Bangor. I both witnessed and sensed the embodiment of the wisdom that has come to print. As a long time meditator, I didn't need the book to increase my commitment to meditation. I was interested in Meg's practice and if it might be integrated with my Centering Prayer/Zen practice. I've read many books on the topic, but whether it's from knowing Meg personally or in discovering how I resonate with the Unified Mindfulness System she teaches, I've chosen to take this book slowly and with discipline, letting the practices, not too dissimilar from mine, become even more habitual. I recently shared "Feel-See-Hear" with a woman I mentor and she reports renewed excitement over her daily sits. The mistake someone would make with purchasing this book, in my opinion, would be to simply scan through it and move on. Don't.

A truly excellent overview with detailed, compact advice for anyone thinking about or wanting to get into mindfulness or mediation to either reduce stress or negative thoughts or to build 'flourishing' and greater enjoyment of life. Meg very clearly and competently covers the full range of types of approaches to this now very popular topic - with the why, how to, when to, how much to, all spelled out in ways anyone can pick and choose from to find what suits them best. This is the best part - no doctrinaire "you must do this" but a very easy to understand outline of the range of options, from the original 'sitting in meditation' to the 'moments of reflection in the midst of activity' so you can choose what fits you and what you can stand. As a long time believer in this stuff, from my Zen readings in the 60s, I know it works and have often thought of trying to write just such a book as this. Thankfully now someone has so I can point others to what I've tried to say, now all summarized in one easy place.. I learned 'the hard way' by trying to interpret Zen stories and meditation advice into methods that worked for me without sitting and in the midst of what turned into very hectic, stressful careers, undertaking tasks that others often fled from.

Meg Salter did an excellent job putting this book together. You can tell she's a coach, because the format of the book offers needed structure in a conversational tone.I practice the Unified Mindfulness system of Shinzen Young, but have practiced other forms of meditation throughout my life. The UM approach is unique in the way it systematizes meditation and teaches you what is actually going on in your mind and body. Meg Salter makes the UM system even more approachable by cutting through some of the complexities through a few simple approaches and frequently reminding you of definitions. She provides practice suggestions and templates, so it's like having a personal coach.I also really liked the narratives of real people applying the practice. Generally, I'm not fond of "real-life" narratives in how-to books, because I felt they interrupted the flow. Meg Salter weaves them in seamlessly. They offer ideas for your own practice, by how others used the UM mindfulness practice Salter teaches. Also they can help you relax the grip on making sure you "do it right" that I find most people have when it comes to meditation. As a career coach and Buddhist teacher, I have already used some of her methods with clients and plan to use her book as a resource in the future.

As an executive coach, I often encourage my clients to engage in a mindfulness meditation practice. For many of them, this is a new concept, so they want to read about it first. Before Meg Salter wrote Mind Your Life, I had trouble finding a resource that wasn't too theoretical, too Buddhist, or too touchy-feely for my audience. Finally! Mind Your Life is a much-needed resource for anyone who wants to know more about the heart (motivation and purpose), mind (neuroscience and biology) and body (mechanics and outcomes of practice) of meditation. The concepts are presented in a way that's both practical and powerful. A terrific contribution to coaches and meditators alike.

Wow! What a special book. The author is so clear and gives the reader such a great primer on Shinzen Young's wonderful method of mindfulness meditation. This is, in my mind, the "go to" book for anyone interested in learning a very approachable method of meditation. I teach meditation and recommend this book to my students.

Amazing book

Rumkowski and the Orphans of Lodz

From Publishers Weekly

Chaim Rumkowski, the Nazi-appointed leader of the Jewish community in the Polish ghetto of Lodz, has long been a controversial figure, despised by some as a collaborator for his role in the deportation of Jews from the ghetto. Eichengreen offers what appears to be an insurmountable case against Rumkowski. Soon after the teenage Eichengreen (From Ashes to Life) was deported to the Lodz ghetto in October 1941, she was told that Rumkowski, the ghetto's Jewish liaison to the Nazis, was alleged to have been a child molester before the war. In the following years, she learned, both from other ghetto residents and firsthand, that these accusations were true. The sexual abuse detailed here in spare, chilling prose is just the most egregious of the material and emotional hardships of ghetto life that made human decency virtually impossible. The author cogently describes the exploitation and deceit that infested intimate relationships in the ghetto. At times, her pillorying of Rumkowski's feeble attempts to save a few Jews appears unfair. She ridicules his apparently understandable statement that, if he were able to save a hundred Jews, his efforts would have been worthwhile, with the comment, "The enormity and monstrosity of Rumkowski's words appalled me." But the weight of the evidence she has marshaled, which includes testimony she gathered after the war from other survivors, will remove from most readers any sympathy they might otherwise have had for Rumkowski and his difficult position. From Library Journal

In broad form, Eichengreen's memoir differs little from that of many other Holocaust victims. It is, however, distinguished by its focus on the accusation that she and a number of other boys and girls were victims of sexual abuse by Chaim Rumkowski, the controversial Jewish leader of the Lodz ghetto. Rumkowski is regarded as either a megalomaniac collaborator or a man who probably saved thousands of Jews from extermination; Eichengreen weighs in on the former side by linking her story with those of other victims of his pedophilia. Although the book is well written, it is inevitably based largely on reminiscences and follows an orderly process that the reality may not have enjoyed. Recommended for larger public libraries and Judaica collections.AFrederic Krome, Jacob Rader Marcus Ctr. of the American Jewish Archives, Cincinnati Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc.

A wonderfully written account of such a difficult, dark time, on the part of the author and the other children, about whom she wrote. It's a tribute to their memory, most of whom did not survive the War, and a tribute to the tenacity of the author. Highly recommended.

Well done, horrific times/topic. Any evidence of guilt, outside of stories/comments would have given this a 5 star.

very informative and eye-opening....I will NEVER forget !!!!!

A good description of the terrible conditions in the Lodz Ghetto. But, most importantly, a view of Rumkowski that I have never read before. A difficult man in a very difficult time. Only God can judge.

Comment on Monika Polit, M.C. Rumkowslki, Fact & Fiction (translation of the Polish original) It is not my habit to comment on "Holocaust studies" and particularly on the writings of young scholars with no first hand experience of what they write. But I cannot let pass Ms. Polit's new book, apprently a revision of her doctoral dissertation.Polit takes issue with the statement in my own book, Rumkowski and the Orphans of Lodz (Mercury House 19999) where I describe Rumkowski's child abuse. Polit questions my first hand account on the grounds that I did not make similar statements in other books or video testimony. To repeat, molestation took place at the office of the Kuchnia Kolacina, on Mlinarska Street, in summer of 1943. That I have chosen carefully when and where to reveal this sensitive and painful information does not make it untrue. To state it is not true is an insult coming from someone who wasanot in the Ghetto, did not meet or talk with Rumkowski, and has no first hand experience with this matter.I barely survived three years in the Lodz Ghetto, lost my mother to a painful death from hunger, and lost my sister in the Sperre and to murder in Chelmno. I consider Ms. Ploit's statements about me personally to constitute defamation of character. Lucille Eichengren, Oakland, CA. USA, 6-16-16

This is a short but nevertheless harrowing account of the child abuse and other atrocities committed by Chaim Rumkowski, the Nazi-appointed Jewish "elder" in charge of the Lodz Ghetto, where the author was incarcerated for nearly four years, and where she lost her mother and sister, and very nearly lost her own life.I also highly recommend Ms. Eichengreen's .

This book is an easy and short read. My professor assighned this book to read and Im glad he did. The author does an excellent job of telling the reader her story of torment, abuse, and neglect at the hands of the Nazis and their puppet Rumkowski.

I'll be blunt: I am generally not a big fan of Lencioni's format or overall way of thinking about business. So 4 stars for me is a big deal. I think he got a lot of things right in this book, first of which is that he didn't tell a contrived, childish story that insults the intelligence of the reader, and instead talks to us in plain language interspersed with concrete, real-world examples. Finally. What is the advantage? He defines it as a "healthy organization," which consists, basically, of systems that enforce good management practices based in psychology and science, clear and decisive values and purpose, and a well-oiled organizational machine for meetings and communication. This is—as he says—pretty simple stuff to understand, but it all needs to be done together to be effective, lest any one part short-circuit any other. Correct. What else he got right:- The overall premise. With improvement of people management, and a few easy-to-understand, basic concepts done well, vast improvement is possible.- Most of the psychology of teams, individuals, and dysfunctions thereof. Especially in noting Attribution bias.- Framing of performance reviews as a process for improvement, not as a means for, well, anything else.- The idea that no one part, on its own, is the key to success—that you must look at the health of the whole organization.- The clear outline of purpose, values, and alignment, and the no-nonsense discussion of the humanity thereof. Spot on.Shaky ground (one star deducted for these purposes primarily).- The whole discussion of Accountability. I'll write a bit about this, since it's a big misstep, even though few understand why. One gets the impression that this is an old concept of his that he hasn't fully developed, and that even he, the master of his own book, is uncomfortable with the premise. He should trust his own instincts! Accountability is the wrong concept, and in the entire chapter he wavers back and forth between various definitions and examples that don't support what he's saying and sometimes have nothing to do with the concept at all. What's the right way to look at accountability? Forget the concept entirely. Toss it in the trash. It's a useless concept grounded in ancient management practices of command-and-control, founded in the idea that punishment for sub-par work is the best way to motivate people. This is an idea that Lencioni himself disproves later on in the book, when he talks about performance management—the goal is always to improve, not to blame or punish, and Accountability ruins the trust necessary to improve. It conflicts with the rest of his model, and it's out of place because of it. I have a feeling the inconsistency will dawn on him soon, as it's clear from the rest of his model that he's very close to the whole deal.- The—it's hard to describe—hubris, self-importance, the lack of humility shown in the whole model and his presentation of it. What he's landed on here is not all that new or original, as he implies it is. It's the same core concept that Deming landed on, and Ackoff, and Juran, and a few others. It contains elements of Lean management, of the Toyota way, of Peter Scholte's interpretation of Deming, and of many concepts from other systems thinkers and organizational modelers that have—albeit perhaps less accessibly—rounded out the same model that Lencioni has. He mentions none of them. He gives the impression that he's landed on all of these concepts all by himself, which is either true (someone observing reality can reach the same conclusions), or demonstrates either ignorance (unlikely) intentional simplification (perhaps) or willful disregard for the great management thinkers who came before him. No matter how you slice it, it's irritating. As much as those minor flaws annoy me, this is, overall, a mostly right-side-up view of organizations and how to work them, with a whole lot of positive ways of thinking that would help many a company work better and, as W. Edwards Deming said, to find "joy in work" that is the true indicator of a healthy company. Managers and leaders would do well to read this and take its concepts to heart. It is, overall, a good intro to a series of learnings on the path to a more enlightened organization.Your next reads, (the Big Kids' Bikes, if you will):- The Leader's Handbook: Making Things Happen, Getting Things Done (absolutely essential)- Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World (an alternative model, with much more insight and innovative thought)- The Toyota Way: 14 Management Principles from the World's Greatest Manufacturer (how to really drive a "healthy organization" with a systems view)- Dr. Deming: The American who Taught the Japanese About Quality (a deep dive on Deming, who is the true father of the "holistic organization" systemic health that Lencioni talks about)- Thinking in Systems: A Primer (how to think about organizational—and any other—systems, in concrete and useful terms)This is the right way to proceed. Get started with Lencioni if you like his style, and don't stop there. Good luck.

My company is going through this book, and supposedly reorganizing toward corporate health. The weakness of this process is immediately clear - it assumes that the leaders of the company are the right people and correct in their assessments. I am shocked, horrified, and appalled by what is happening. The gulf between our leaders and the rest of the company, which has always been wide, is increasing. Leaders march around talking transparency and tell us not to be afraid of conflict, but are completely opaque about what is going on., and extraordinary defensive. Their emails to the company are filled with lingo words with which we are unfamiliar. The whole process is so top heavy. Even the language of the process, “cascading messages” for example, implies that communication goes down. There is no process for things going up. All of this is explained away by input such as “Things get messy before they get better.” Um, messy is ok. Total chaos, with company wide fractured morale, not so much. The leadership team of my company, while quite satisfied with themselves, do not have the confidence of most of the company. Currently, 20+ positions are open - since we only employ app 100 people, that’s saying something. I spoke with a friend whose organization also used this book. He said they abandoned it because after working with it for about 2 years, they felt there was no end game- that all the work they had done had yielded little. I recently contacted a former colleague for a reference. He said, “What on earth is going on there? Just about a dozen people have contacted me in the last month for a reference.” I would talk to a leader about this, but experience tells me that I would simply be seen as someone of whom the process is supposed to weed out. BTW- every position I have ever held.... I am a mature professional, loyal, effective, and trustworthy. And I’ve had it.

The Advantage is another of Patrick Lencioni's business books, yet unlike all others (that I've read) this one is not written as a business novel. Instead it is a bit more like a normal business book but then it summarizes some of the core ideas of Lencioni's earlier books. A good idea, but in practice I didn't like the book much and much prefer the usual format for Lencioni books.A key point of the book is that it is organizational health that is the key thing to manage for in an organization. The first chapter makes the case for that. The next chapter introduces the four discipline model, which is followed by one chapter per discipline. These are (1) build a cohesive leadership team, (2) create clarity, (3) overcommunicate clarity, and (4) reinforce clarity. After these chapters is a chapter on following a certain meeting structure, followed the traditional closing and actions chapter.Though I like most of Lencioni's work, this work left me unimpressed. Perhaps it was that I had read all the earlier books on which the key concepts were based. Yet, I do not think so. He packaged the earlier 'spot' ideas on how to improve one thing into a very traditional feeling management framework. It feels very top-down traditional management style - traditional management consultant recommendations. I was disappointed by that because I had hoped to have a bit more of an insight. So, I left the book very disappointed and look forward to the next Lencioni book which I hope will be back in the usual format. If you read all the Lencioni books, don't bother picking up this one. If you didn't, I'd recommend the other books rather than this one. If you prefer to not read novels, then this might be good. 3 stars.

Canoeing The Delaware River

A mile-by-mile account of the Delaware River from where the East and West Branches meet in Hancock, New York, to 200 miles downstream to tidewater in Trenton, New Jersey. The book describes rapids, access areas, and points of interest, as well as canoe safety and environmental concerns.

This book is amazing. As beginning kayakers it allowed us to plan day trips and confidently build our skill level. Literally every mile of the river is documented with information about rapids and the best routes to take for either a challenge or a relaxing day. The book is also filled with interesting tidbits on the sites you will see as you float the Delaware. While some of the information on local businesses is out of date, I found the access point information to be up to date and useful in 2014. If you plan on paddling the del ware even just for a day, get this book!!

I used this recently on a short trip down the Delaware and found it invaluable. I had three riffs to go through in about five miles and it was quite helpful in finding the right places to go through.

If you are looking for a paddling guide for the Delaware, look no farther, as you have found the best one.We originally bought the 1997 version of this book, and immediately loved it. It provides key information to navigating the Delaware and planning short of long trips. This current update is important, as things have changed in the past 10 years with all the major floods on the Delaware.I plan on using our older version as a marked-up "field" book, and using this one for the planning. Overall, I could recommend any edition of this book, as they are all superb!

great book, i live on the Delaware and make notes of things that have changed or lay downs and things that would be good for fishing. I also mark good fishing wholes and spots so i know to return to them. The history in the book is great as well and I learned some new things. Lets you know where you can camp legally, I don't pay much attention to that, and all the public put ins and boat launches. it s a nice read and very informational if you like to yak or canoe or boat.

I had kayaked the upper portions of the Delaware, and had ridden my bicycle along the road from Hancock to Port Jervis, and had caught some of the Delaware Water Gap driving from Syracuse to NYC. Our goal was to kayak two days, get the most rapids for the time, and stay in a hotel. We stayed at the Scottish Inn in PA. We had bicycles to ride back to the put in to get the car. We did 18 miles upstream from Port Jervis and 12 miles downstream. The book was our guide. It was accurate, helpful, easy to read and made all the difference between a hit or miss adventure and a success. There are not a lot of bridges or take outs along portions of the Delaware, so having this book was great. I highly recommend.

Gary's awesome: he replied to an email with really good advice for a short trip. Solid advice too. I bought the book and it really helped me lead our group. Looking forward to the next season.
