I'm in the midst of reliving the Memory Lane of the years when I was young and healthy, so I bought Queen and a couple other CDs and some iTunes from the 70's and 80's. Amazon has great prices for these CDS, and I so love the great quality of the sound, music, and singing that technology has bought us! The Greatest Hits, "We Will Rock You" did not disappoint!! It sounds fantastic! It truly has all of the greatest hits that I loved then and still love today! I'm 63, by the way, and I definitely believe that we baby boomers had the VERY BEST MUSIC of all ages in the late 60's, 70's and 80's (with some major exceptions!). Nothing compares with our baby-boomer music today!!!! ROCK ON!
It would have been a complete 5 stars... but what is a Queen's Greatest Hit Album without Bohemian Rhapsody?
I ordered the Queen Greatest Hits I [2 LP] 's vinyl and is a disaster. They are 2 pcs of records when you get this, first for Side 1 and 2, second for Side 3 and 4.The first record's spindle hole diameter is too tight, it won't fit my standard turntable spindle pin (AT-LP3) (see the 2nd half of the attached video)I cannot spin it since I do not want to force and wreck any of my turntable part.Worse, on the second record Side 3, the whole side is not Queen songs, but Arctic Monkeys'! (see the 1st half of the attached video)How in the world could this happened?I live abroad, ordered and sent this to my country. And sending an item back to the US would cost a fortune here.
I received this vinyl for a birthday present, and on my birthday, I took the plastic off, and stuck it on my record player. The first few songs were good, but there were a few songs that skipped throughout the entire song.We had the record return for a replacement, and it still skips through the entirety of "Don't Stop Me Now," "Don't Stop Believing," and a few others. I tried a few other vinyls that played fine, so it's definitely the vinyl itself and not my record player. The album is great (obviously, it's Queen), but just but it somewhere else. If it were used, I would understand a few scratches and skipping, but this is ridiculous for two brand new vinyls.
Review is for VINYL 2 LP version of Queen's Greatest hits. I purchased this Queen double LP on 2/15/2018 for $19.38. We have all heard it hundreds of times, so I will tell you about the vinyl, not the music. Excellent pressing. Superb clarity throughout. No click, pops or low points in the audio reproduction noted whatsoever on the heavyweight vinyl. Heavy gatefold and very sturdy inner sleeves detailing Queen's albums. A bargain if you can pick it up for under $20 like I did here.
Love this band. Love their studio albums. Their live ones are ok (obviously, not as good, because Roy Thomas Baker wasn't up there on stage with them.) However, I keep getting more and more pissed off about all the strange changes they continue to make to this record, which certainly was a five star album back when it was released in 1982. The original - and best - version didn't have the chaff on it. By "chaff," I'm talking about all the unnecessary additions. "Good Ol' Fashioned Lover Boy" is not one of their best tunes. It wasn't a "Hit," and it's here instead of "Tie Your Mother Down?" Actually, I don't think "Don't Stop Me Now" was on there, either. I do like that one, but it wasn't a "hit," and it definitely breaks up the flow of the record. Not to mention the odd use of the tune in advertising in the 21st century ... Geez. If you're in your 20s, you probably think that was a huge hit, over "Bicycle Race" or "Fat Bottomed Girls." You would be incorrect. You would also be incorrect in thinking that's a better song than "Jealousy" or "If You Can't Beat 'Em," also. I have seen editions of this album containing the cut "Staying Power." I like it, but it doesn't fit here at all. The same goes for "Under Pressure," which, as a diehard, I can tell you was not on my original copy of Queen's Greatest Hits. The Queen/Bowie collaboration is ok. Not the best of either, but again, it has been used in a ton of commercials in recent times, so it "feels" like it should be there (like a Hall of Famer who "feels" like he should be enshrined but only hit .270, lifetime.) "Now I'm Here" wasn't on there, either. Again, I like the tune. It wasn't a "hit," though, and there isn't any way it should be there over Lap of the Gods ... Revisited, one of their most popular anthems. Oddly, I have also seen versions that omit "Seven Seas of Rhye," which was there on the original. Even there, I couldn't really believe they wouldn't have used "Stone Cold Crazy," but whatever. Queen is a great band. Queen's Greatest Hits was a great album, upon release, and for many years thereafter. Once the CD "revolution" occurred, though, it became a passable hits collection, with some, frankly, strange choices, regarding sequencing, inclusion, and subtraction. Fortunately, the audio seems nearly unchanged; there may be some remastering, but it hasn't made much difference, because their studio albums were so immaculate, in the first place. However, caveat emptor in the worst way. Someone in the band's camp has decided to "modernize" most versions of the album, featuring brand new track listings and cuts that shouldn't ever have been there at all. Additionally, these "new" additions seem to be heavily influenced by their success in advertising and in media, as does the aim of the entire album nowadays. I truly hate turning on ABC and hearing "You're My Best Friend," switching to NBC and hearing the fast version of "We Will Rock You," and then flipping over to CBS in time to hear "Don't Stop Me Now," but again, whatever (then, I turn on the news and hear "Under Pressure.") Just writing that makes me want to dock this album another star, but I won't, because I remember how much joy the original recordings brought me before corporate America anointed Queen as its favorite band. Actually, in '18, they're probably the most overexposed, hyped band in history, and I'm writing this years after having collected every single album they ever did. I ran out and bought "Innuendo" on the first day, after seeing the video on MTV. Man, is that a great song or what??? It's certainly better than "Good Ol' Fashioned Lover Boy."
All their best, in one nice package. Only song selection complaint I have is the omission of "Keep Yourself Alive" & "Tie Your Mother Down". I could live without "Good Old-Fashion Lover Boy". Other than that, it's pretty much a flawless collection of Queen's earlier songs.Quality is great. LPs are on 180 gram vinyl, have no surface noise and sound terrific. Not sure what has gone wrong with some other people complaining about the quality. Must've have been a bad run somewhere. Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this if you're looking for a nice compilation of Queen's earlier catalog. These songs are timeless.
First of all, 5 stars for the music,2 stars for the item here. I had to return it and replace it twice. First time the press quality was terrible, second time the spinning hole was too small that it barely fit went in the record player
Both vinyl records have dimples all over them (see photo). In addition, the central hole diameter is too small and it won't get into the center spindle.I don't recommend buying this product.
