Good book, but has some errors in the word problems. You might need to look at them first, and then give them to your child to work on. If your child is struggling with some of the problems, it may be because there isn't enough info provided, or it is slightly wrong (e.g. John walks _____ of a mile further to school than Harris. Together they walk 5 1/4 miles. How far does each of them walk?You actually need to know what the blank is, how much more of a mile does John walk than Harris?).
I use all of the Spectrum materials as support material for my grandson's school work, and have found them to be the best I have used for that purpose, money well spent. These books come with tear-out sheets that can easily be scanned for doing work on the computer.
This is a typical math book with limited explanations. Not to be used as an independent learning tool but is basically what I expected when I ordered it.
This book is great for your 7th grader. My child is going into pre algebra next month when school starts here. This will be a great step into it.I highly recommend this during summer time either to brush up on 7th grade math or to learn something new before the rest of the class does. I've been buying workbooks for my kids since they were a toddler. It gives them better confidence when they know what's being taught versus just learning and being unsure in the classroom where they feel rushed.
There are explanations at the start of each lesson which I like because the student can work independently. The sample examples could be more explicit. The answer key in the back helps me.

I am using this in conjunction with the Common Core 7th grade quick study laminated guide. I teach my daughter a topic on the laminated guide (sold separately) and then find the corresponding lesson in the workbook for her to complete on her own. They are great tools together and my hope is that by focusing on what she will be learning in 7th grade ahead of time she will be better prepared for the school year.
