Gives you an idea of what the book has to offer.Ornaments are the cutest ever and I love the other patterns, fair isle, Irish fisherman I have a hard time deciding which I'd want to make first.Starts with what you need for materials, abbreviations and other helpful information.Instructions are given row by row style with some chart instructions for the color work involved.Wide rows make it easier to follow the pattern. This is not basic things but if you take your time even a beginner can make these items. And for the experience knitters there are challenges to be met.Reindeer and bells for a long term project-a stocking would be my choice. And for a short term project I'd want to select the heart ornament because it could be used for many other holidays.I received this book from Storey Publishing via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion

I adore this book! I have purchased it several times and given to friends that knit. I have knitted several of the mix-and-match socks...someday I may branch out and try others in the book. I enjoy reading over all of the patterns! Some of the stockings have afterthought heels and some do not. I like that there are many options! I highly recommend this book! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

This is an excellent source for just making fun Christmas stockings and ornaments. The patterns are painfully concise - literally every row is covered. And they are beautifully diverse from the simple and rustic to elaborate and classic intarsia. There is something in here for every level of knitting expertise and for those of you who suffer from "SSS" (Second Sock Syndrome) rest assured that these are all single sock projects with no need for a pair.I have been having a lot of fun with these and find that a Christmas stocking makes a quick and ideal knitted gift for literally anyone as it serves as a keepsake & decoration and does not put anyone in the awkward situation of being forced to wear something that might be well-meaning but not to the recipients tastes.

I'm not nuts about the selection of patterns, but the patterns that are there are well-written and definitely meant to hold the less-experienced knitter's (moi) hand. Patterns in the knitting and crocheting world are usually written with just the stitches, leaving the knitter to guess what the outcome should look like. Not this little book, though their method succeeds to varying degrees. That said, pictures, in addition to the written hand-holding, for each stage of creation sure would be nice. Still, it's a good, basic book for getting started with making stockings. I don't regret the purchase.

My grandmother knit Christmas stockings for all her grandkids. The stockings had Christmas designs knitted into them along with each child's name. When my firt grandchild was born, I knew I had to keep this tradition going. I looked EVERYWHERE for a similar pattern and finally found it in this book. Somehow, between my second and third grandchild, I misplaced the book! I was delighted to find it at a bargain price on Amazon.com. And I know exactly where it is to knit my fourth stocking this year!

Also, I like books that are very specific when it comes to knitting, such as this one or One Skein books or lace projects, things like that. I hate buying a book for one pattern and none of the others are useful. This one is cute for a gift or yourself!

This book is full of things I allready know. Like my job was killing me. Still it was refreshing to read because it validated my fears of how bad a toxic job is. The plus side of this book is highlighting lots of key points and marking pages with particularly damming and accurate statements about your workplace... Then leaving the Book in public view at you desk for all the other miserable coworkers and supervisors to look through and comment on. Sometimes the toxic workplace needs to be called out for things to change.

This book was just what I needed to read to re-orient my perspective about my current job situation. I think it will be helpful for a lot of people in this day and age of "If you still have your job, be grateful, get paid less and work harder". With that kind of pressure, I really needed a guide to help me see more clearly and elevate my morale.

The Author definitely has a deep understanding of the negative effects that work can have on your health. I particularly liked the idea of thinking of your career as a collage rather than a photo (i.e., designing a composite career).I was distracted by all the feminist references. For example, "Bobbie" feels she has disappointed her family because they expected a boy. The Author explains that women are treated like second class citizens despite being "better students and more productive employees than men" and that women have been told all their lives that they are "less valued and valuable than their brothers". The book also tells the sad tale of "Marianne", a closeted lesbian, and her "homophobic VP".All of that may be true, but it doesn't relate to the topic of overcoming burnout and revitalizing your career. The book was useful, but would have been better if the Author had stayed on-topic.

Toxic Work is the first reference book in the career section which has a bibliography worth reading. The book not only does all the work for you by collecting and organizing relevent resources, but provides a wealth of examples. The author doesn't give pat answers, but takes the reader through the problem-solving process. I found the book empowering because it provides the structure and information I needed to generate a successful game plan. I became proactive, and am happily employed at the same job that sent me to the book store looking for an escape.

Toxic Work is a wonderful resource. I have used the book as a required text for both my graduate level Managment Training and Development and Human Resource Management courses. My students, without exception, rave about the content. Dr. Reinhold's humor and insight have provided me and over 100 of my students with a great set of career problem solving tools and a teriffic bibliography. I keep hoping that there will be a sequel ... perhaps Toxic Two. Keep them comming.

I didn't find this book very helpful. The author seems to recommend leaving your job more often than I expected. . . if I wanted to do that, I wouldn't be reading this book. I wanted to learn how to FIX the problems that are there.

Socially Engaged Art is becoming more and more popular. I am taking a class covering this topic and have been impressed by the critic and easy to understand explanations of this form of art. I actually really enjoy this book and will keep it after the semester is over.

Great resource for teaching socially engaged art course. Lots of diverse artists.

This is an extremely unique and informative book on an increasingly important part of visual culture--socially engaged art movement. Great images and interesting vignettes about the artists and their work. Highly recommend.

I attended this exhibition for the full 2 weeks. Nato Thompson's grasp of this material is complete. The show was brilliant. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in this most important work we call Social Practice.

Nato Thompson has plenty of excerpts from artists, or descriptions of their work. Some are excellent (Claire Bishop), others I feel push the limit of what qualifies as "socially engaged art" (Women on the Waves). Nato Thompson tends to regard almost anything as SEA though.

It has a cover, pages, words, and pictures. Since it's required reading for college course, no editorial opinion is proffered since you gotta have it if it is a course requirement, right?

Useful and inspiring: the 150+ pages of descriptions of projects by 100+ artists/organizations (including such as Ai Weiwei and Vic Muniz) exploring new ways of social engagement. Nicely done. The exploratory, thought-provoking, and knocking-down-walls aspect is enhanced by the inclusion of some entities/projects which would not normally even be thought of as "artistic" in nature.Possibly less useful for some readers: the approx 70 pages of essays, which contain a lot of rarefied and politicized art-crit-speak ("We need to move beyond the abstraction of the 'global' in order to engage with the particularities of the political inscribed within local geographies of conflict. It is within this specificity where contemporary artistic practice needs to reposition itself in order to expose the particularity of hidden institutional histories, revealing the missing information that can allow us to piece together a more accurate anticipatory urban research and intervention."

Turkey is the buffer between the Christian West and the Muslim East, a country with ancient roots and very modern absurdities—not the least of which is the British expatriate community. I loved that Scott is fairly blunt in his descriptions of the good, the bad and the simply confusing aspects of modern Turkey and what it takes to settle down there. Clearly, it adds to the laughter, but it also provides a clear-eyed reality check. When you chase your dreams, they tend not to turn out exactly like, well, your dreams.There is also a substantial record of both Scott and Liam’s families back in the UK, and some of the most touching revelations come from these asides. Escaping your boring life also means leaving family behind, and for some folks that’s a big deal.Our lives are the result of many choices we make along the way. Jack and Liam took a leap of faith, and then refused to be swayed either by setbacks or unexpected weather. This story is a paean to self-fulfillment and looking for happiness wherever it might be.

But with PERKING THE PANSIES, I had to let it “perk” through my mind and into my heart while I thought about what author Jack Scott is trying to do, and what he has done.To cut to the chase: In around 2008, a fiftyish gay couple living in England decide to emigrate to Turkey. An astonishing decision, perhaps; but life grows short and carpe diem! What ensues is a semi-autobiography, part-travelogue, part-day journal of the places Jack and Liam go, the people they meet, and the almost daily surprises that life in Turkey can provide.The book is replete with witty dialog and outlandish characters. The narrator, Jack, while seeming to present their daily life in a straightforward way, tends to throw his husband and their new acquaintances into high relief while keeping his own personality shaded and his own emotions in check. The device works well, mostly because Scott is a fine writer who knows just what he’s doing.When I discard the “gay romance” filter I usually use to critique a book, I discover that this work is an absolute keeper. When I let the sex, the deep emotion, the “true story” perk under the surface, I’m left with a rarity: a book I will re-read, to prise the hidden gold from every page.Sly, witty, unique, exceptionally well-crafted…Here’s a book I highly recommend to all my friends, both gay and straight.

If you love British ex-pat memoirs (with plenty of humour) as much as I do you will love "Perking the Pansies: Jack and Liam Move to Turkey"! Jack and Liam leave their hurried lives in the UK to live abroad in Turkey. Not without trepidation of what may arise living in a less liberal country. Jack and Liam meet some quirky ex-pats and endearing locals but find that they must distance themselves from several of them. Along with their humour, Jack and Liam have many endearing qualities that will leave you wanting to read more. I have already moved on to the next installment, "Turkey Street: Jack and Liam Move to Bodrum".

I would like to buy Jack a drink or five. The first few pages of “Perking the Pansies” introduce people you really have to know and a story you can’t help caring about. It is funny and real and ultimately meaningful.The book is hysterical but be warned the quick slashes of irreverent, tongue-in-cheek language will have you spitting wine out your nose and choking on your hors d'oeuvres. Take appropriate precautions.It is naked humor that creates realism. Jack doesn’t spare the truth. His descriptions strip away all the pretentions and leave the characters exposed for who they really are instead of who they pretend to be. It is uncomfortable and yet there is no hate or cruelty. Jack is not mean. It is uncomfortable because the truth often is.Jack does not protect himself from himself as he narrates the book. The book gives an intimate look at his life and thoughts. The little details like Jack standing in the mirror making a face lift with his fingers are true-to-life and relatable. It is raw honesty and it makes him a real person. I found myself alternately rooting for Jack and Liam and fearing their naïveté. They became friends and I was invested in their success.The message is inspiring. Jack and Liam’s journey teaches us that happiness matters but it isn’t always easy. Courage is required. Fear cannot be allowed to gorvern. Waiting for everything to be safe is not the answer. Change will only come from everyday people brave enough to live everyday lives.“Perking the Pansies” is a great book. It will make you laugh. It will make you think. It will require self-reflection. It will stay with you. You will be glad you read it.

I've been following the series since last year when I found the web novel. The first two volumes of the light novel stayed the same as the web novel, it is in this volume where things start to change. The change was unexpected but not un-welcomed, it took me a while to get use to that particular change though.This is my favorite Light Novel series, and it's anime adaption has recently started to air! So much hype for these novels, they just aren't being published in english fast enough now!

So I started this series with the web novel, and it really is a lot more polished in this published version! The story is a lot of fun, and I liked how the author handled this volume's boss battle.However, for a published story, it still has a disappointing number of typos and plot errors. For example, mixing up names, mixing up countries of origin, getting Ranga's size wrong in the key battle... All things that should have been fixed prior to publication. So I had to subtract a star.Other than that, this remains a light hearted OP novel full of fun!

I liked it I have been. Waiting for this book for awhile darn it. I love following remuru's adventures, I am waiting for more of the light novel to come out.

Loved the bits with Milim, shes a fun character, some of the political intrigue bits were a little long winded, but still a fun read.

This series has a nice mix of storytelling and characters. Rimiru's continuous naming of the monsters is having unintended consequences, not to mention unwelcome attention from others. And having the most powerful of the Demon Lord's acting like a little brat is a nice touch.

I got this series off a friend’s recommendation but I never thought it would be this good. I have been looking for a series that didn’t have like ten book already out that I feel pressured to get and read. The story good, the characters are funny, the world is made like the old 2D pixel RPG of my childhood.

Amazing Light Novel Series, yes it's worth it.

If you liked the first two volumes or came here because you're a fan of the current show, you won't be disappointed. If you're an anime only, I'd recommend reading the first two volumes first.
