These are Malcolm's favorite specimens, as she hopes that the camera's transformative capacities confer aesthetic value on the apparently plain and worthless. That transformation doesn't happen all on its own, though; it requires a measure of technical skill and visual flair, and the evidence in this book is that Malcolm doesn't have the chops for the job. While there is an austere splendor in these simple, plainly lit, head-on shots, too often the images seem flatter than they should. This book was a down to earth account of many things that go on with the average churchgoer and many believers. The two are not always the same, you know. It also gave an account of two pastors and how they differed in the way they lived their lives and adhered to the Word of God. Challenges faced by Pastor Landris, Gabrielle, Zachary, Angela, Aletha, Mercy, Clarence and others will make you say, "I know what you are going through". Gramps, Ransom Purdue, celebrating his 100th birthday, gives a true meaning to the saying "papa was a rolling stone". However, as we know what was meant for the bad God can turn out for the good. Most characters will likely agree what happens in the dartk will come to the light. The truth is the light for many in the book. Relationships are important, those with God and those with others. God prevails, as always and God is good.

Riveting story that is the 6th book in this Blessed Trinity series. I am looking forward for the next book

I really like the book simplicity. Her writing style was good. It was a quick read and another page turner and incidentally a food burner LOL I like that there weren't a lot of big words that have you reaching for your dictionary. Its another faith base novel but one that isn't preachy. kudos Vanessa.

I love this book, in fact the entire series is awesome. I am still trying to acquire some of the other books, and have read them out of sequence, but it didn't matter. Love these books.

Advocates run the gamut from Plato to Scott Peck and include an array of philosophies from atheism to Zionism, with stops at humanism, Ayn Rand, Billy Graham, Teilhard de Chardin, Benjamin Franklin, Machiavelli and others. Censorship includes essays on freedom of speech and its questionable limits in the new media, advertising, national security, pornography and schools and libraries. Major proponents from most opposing viewpoints are well represented, including David S. Broder, Patrick J. Buchanan, Phyllis Schlafly and Jerry Falwell, Andrea Dworkin and the ALA. The format of both volumes is identical. Each essay is preceded by short introductory remarks and a list of three or four provocative questions to keep in mind while reading. I like the concept and it has some good advice but it’s not very well written. Super repetitive and doesn’t flow very well.

It doesn’t matter what kind of woman you are, this book speaks to all of us. Every chapter talks about a different aspect of your own personal value - and how you need to learn to recognize that value to speak up for yourself. Absolutely loved it. Well done, Mika. Thank you.

The House of Arden is a lesser known book of Nesbit's, and Harding's Luck is a companion work that is perhaps even less recognized.That is truly a pity, for in these books you'll find the delightful magic of Five Children and It or The Enchanted Castle along with the heartwarming courage and family loyalty of The Railway Children. Add in time travel to other periods of history and encounters with a few key figures (Sir Walter Raleigh, Henry VIII, etc.) of those times, and you have an almost perfect combination of adventure, magic, and pure fun! You will want to read The House of Arden first, but by all means, don't miss this treasure, which completes the story!Richard Arden was a rather minor character in The House of Arden, but we meet him in Harding's Luck as Dickie Harding, a poor lame boy in the tenements of London who is brought up and mistreated by his "aunt" after his father's death. His only comfort is a silver rattle, the family treasure, that his father gave him before he died. Through a series of unusual circumstances, Dickie finds that his "Tinkler," his name for the silver rattle, and a few other special items can transport him to 300 years in the past where he is the son of a wealthy lord and no longer lame. He loves the past times and would like to stay there, but promises he made in the present (early 1900's) draw him back to his own times where he helps a friend leave a life of begging and finds his true place in the House of Arden. In his adventures, both in the past and present, Dickie encounters Edred and Elfrida Arden (whom we know from The House of Arden). Edred and Elfrida become true friends and playmates (something he had not known as a poor beggar), and though their magic has ended, Dickie takes them with him to past times, and all the children have further opportunity to act honorably for the House of Arden.So why not 5 stars instead of 4? It takes several chapters for the action to pick up, and the dialect makes reading aloud a challenge, as well as being difficult for children to understand if reading on their own. Anyone who has read The House of Arden, however, will be interested enough to persevere through the slower parts and the dialect, for those loose threads that seemed undone when the first book ended, are neatly wrapped up in this companion piece.

This 2016 CreateSpace edition, with the drawing of the boy and shopkeeper on front, is an edition made cheap by printing in tiny type to lower the page count. At my age, I can't read it comfortably, so I'm returning it. What I've learned: With a public domain book like this, check the Look Inside to make sure it's readable. A very shoddy production.

Many of Edith Nesbit's books are not so much novels as they are sequences of shorter stories (perhaps they were published, or meant to be read, serially?) Harding's Luck and its companion, The House of Arden, have far more complex and interwoven plots. The events in the lighter House of Arden form only a part Harding's Luck, as Dickie is a much fuller character than Edred and Elfrida. They must have been plotted together, as each contains references to the other.As in The Psammead and the Carpet, there are numerous instances of Nesbit's socialist views (not in the modern sense of big government, more along the lines of GK Chesterton's definition "A socialist is a man who wants all the chimneys swept and all the chimney sweeps paid for it."). Children will never notice these; adults may find them sweet but sadly naive.In their richness of plot and character, and in the sense of something deeper and truer lurking behind the superficial magic, these two are probably the crown of Nesbit's work. Givn the fact that the paperback copy of Harding's Luck costs $10, it's worthwhile to shell out another $7 for the hardback, so you'll have it longer.

Harding's Luck is a fast-paced British children's fantasy tale. It can stand on its own, but is better read following House of Arden. In addition to typical suspense and escapades found in children's fantasy, this book incorporates significant themes of honor and commitment. I had read it many years ago and even so, it kept me up very late as a page-turner.

This was a great book. I read it first and then gave it to my 10 yr. old daughter. Both the House of Arden and Harding's Luck are worth reading.

I read The House of Arden as a child but didn't know about this sequel. I have always loved E Nesbitt and this is no exception. A cracking good story.

Those readers who are baffled by The House of Arden's plot holes will find some answers in this sequel. Unfortunately it's rather maudlin and not nearly as fun.
