Fodor's travel guides can be a bit of a mixed bag: some are very good and some not. This is one of the good ones.If you have room for only one travel guide for your first visit to Washington, D.C., this is the one to get. Comprehensive enough for all but frequent DC visitors or residents who already know most of the hidden treasures, this will give you what you need to know to put together a realistic tour of the nation's capital as well as surrounding points of interest (Mount Vernon, Annapolis, etc.).I lived in the DC area for several years and although a lot has changed, there are still some things that everyone should see. You would be hard-pressed to find a more complete collection of museums -- history, art, air and space, documents, libraries -- in one relatively small area, which makes visiting here so productive.The general organization of the book is good -- it starts with more general info: how and when to plan your trip, general layout of DC ("What's Where"), top attractions, suggested itineraries and tours, etc. From there, it delves into details -- locations, where to eat, where to stay, etc. All good stuff. An entire chapter on "Performing Arts" -- for me, that alone is worth the price of the book (that's my background). It includes the obvious venues like the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Ford's Theatre (where Lincoln was shot), and the National Theatre, as well as lesser known smaller venues outside of the immediate downtown area (Arena Stage, Folger Theatre, Wolf Trap, Constitution Hall, etc.). Each chapter includes a "planning" section -- how to get tickets, how to save money, etc.This is a seriously comprehensive guide, Very nicely done! Solid 5 stars.

I purchased the Fodor’s guide and one other that was available locally for my upcoming trip to Washington D.C. and Annapolis. Fodors continues to be the gold standard of travel guides in my opinion. Thorough and concise. I have used their guides since the 1980s for traveling all over the world and find the guides a perfect combination of historical info, walking maps, and up to date reference for lodging, eating, shopping, cultural interests and entertainment wherever I travel. This edition did not disappoint! This was not my first trip to DC (probably my 6th) but I found this guide to be very helpful for finding new restaurants and shopping recommendations and a good reminder of old ones to visit. Highly recommend.

Planning my first trip to Washington, DC, I needed a comprehensive guide to EVERYTHING I'd need to know and found it in the Fodor's guide - What to see, where to stay, where to eat.... it's all in there. A full-size map is also included. There are Fodor's Choices for everything, hotels, restaurants and sights!

Great book to get and read before going on vacation to Washington, DC. I read through before our trip and we took it along with us each day as we went out and explored.

I bought the book to prepare for our trip to Washington DC. I was quite disappointed with both the lack of good information and reviews. Restaurant reviews were not helpful and suggestions and directions were disappointing. I would not buy it again.

We live in Virginia, and bought the book to make sure we do it all while we live here. This book has already been so helpful. It is very easy to follow, and find things. Highly recommend

A pretty serious and interesting book by Robert Temple, requiring sharp attention and careful scholarly consideration. There is so little that we really can claim to know about our own history as humans and this book is just another representation of the scope of how "little" that little really is. Of course, for staunch Darwinists these ideas may be no more than fiction, mythology, but upon deeper reading we have to understand that mythology on some level is more factual than the facts concocted by the scientists. After all, comparing to a human life, the age of a myth is much much longer.On this point I am bound to believe that we have never developed gradually from the one-celled organisms, then amphibians and finally primates. There are way too many glitches in that (still) theory. First of all - why there is no evidence of any primates becoming human in the last several thousands years of recorded history? Second, where are all the connecting links between the fish and the humans. I would expect a much higher diversity of different variations of fish-humans being still present and functioning as part of our current biosphere. Third, why haven't we seen any humans evolving into the super-humans, whatever that may mean. Obviously we are not the apex of evolution, in fact considering what we are doing - we are much worse than the dung-rolling beetles. At least they get rid of the excrement.So with this disregard for the theory of evolution, I have to conclude that if we became, at least physiologically what we are today, that must have been a rather fast, laboratory like process. Indeed, looking at the great complexity and the great variety of creation it is hard not to conclude that this was all created by the Creators too sophisticated to understand. I think this book is a great step on the way to connecting with ourselves, and our true ancestors no matter how far away they may seem.

The question is: not whether this knowledge was given to the Dogon... but given by whom? Robert Temple's work is backed with years of (footnoted) research and a dedication to stick to the facts and not allow himself to fly-off into speculation, about Visitors coming to Earth, just to boost sales in the "New-Age" market. In fact, in my opinion, Robert Temple's work, presented in this present, updated edition, reveals a history with stunning implications and an opportunity for the Human Race to "Know Thyself" as never before. Read the evidence and judge for yourself if Earth was visited by Alien Contact 5,000 years ago? Many are frightened (by evidence of their 'tags') but only open minds have ever revealed history shaking events, nor ever will.

Some of the more critical reviews of this book have stated that the information in it is not really new. The point is that The Sirius Mystery was originally published in 1976, over 30 years ago. It was new then. In fact, the book caused quite a stir, especially in Europe, where Temple's explanation of the cosmology of the Dogon tribe was well received.At the time the Sirius Mystery came out, I was deeply into the tabloidish Erich Von Daniken and I found Temple's writing too intellectual, too scholarly for my liking...so I merely skimmed over it. Since those heady days, and having read just about everything else I could get hold of, I have long since drifted away from the alien astronaut thesis. So re-reading the Sirius mystery now leaves me a little flat.I would caution readers that the writing style is a little difficult, but there are some real gems inside, so it is definitely worth persevering. Certainly, none of Temple's critics have been able to discredit his research or refute his conclusions. I give it only 3 stars because his conclusions are too forced to sit comfortably with my own sense of logic.

A greatly detailed book why the author thinks Aliens came here, and their connection with Egypt and the Dogon Tribe of Africa.Why the Dogon's celebrate the passing of Digitara, their home planet around Sirius,every 64 years.Very interesting.

Strangely, after reading this many oddities and things I'd seen many times seemed to fit well into this mystery.Can get rather tedious to read, but it is very interesting.

It's a great revelation concerning the advanced knowledge of the Dogon and a link up to other theories about the Annunaki. The book belabors the point a bit, especially concerning Jason and the Argonauts, and the dragon's teeth. It drags a bit but the information is still very interesting.

This book is chuck full of amazing information and should be widely read. Another volume is the "ancient alien" series, but much better than most. A great addition to anyone who is interested in alternative history library. 5 Stars

That technique I used the same day and over the next week that I was reading the book, and it taught me the to think Priority and Time Maximization. That was only Chapter One, the rest is unbelievable with what you get. There's a lot to gain by reading this book. It deserves my five star rating. Add this to your list, you won't be disappointed.

The title is a bit misleading. It isn't just about organizing tomorrow, but how to revolutionize your life!I am already benefitting from the strategies that have been suggested. One thing I like is that most of them require a matter of mere MINUTES each day to implement.The strategies provoke very high leverage changes that will alter the results you get...BUT, strangely enough, without focusing on results per se, or in the problems you're trying to solve.I read this book twice and now, these changes are really making a difference in all aspects of my life.Do yourself the greatest of favors and read...AND IMPLEMENT what appears in this book.

Loved this book, all 8 topics are very usable. Most of the ideas I've read elsewhere, but the author's did a great job using different analogies and examples that seemed to make each idea really stick. Lots of great psychology usable in all facets of life.

A wonderful book. Teachs the importance of prioritizing and writing down the most important things to do the day before. Presents new model of getting a better life, focusing on task instead of results. Overall, it worths reading.

I've been to New Zealand only twice--not nearly enough. I've met Maories and regretted that my tourist schedule couldn't let me spend any more time than a few light conversations. Christina Thompson has devoted subtantially more time then that and committed to far more when she married a Maori named Seven.Such a move compromises her objectivity as a cultural anthropologist, but so what? How many of them get the closeness and inside scoop that she has? Her research, going back to the orginal Dutch landing is all about the cultural clashes between Europeans and the first peoples of New Zealand. This is written in an entertaining and informative style, and the personal similarities between her new family and the annals of history are well done. The history is now relayed by a familiar voice; the personal details are kept sufficiently private--I never felt that her or her various familys' dignity was compromised.The whole effect is comperable to a Bill Bryson type of memoir, his travel books, his biography. Ms. Thompson has written a fun and informative book and allowed me to look over her shoulder at a people I'm quite curious over. Finishing it, I hope that she, her husband, their children and all their realtions--close and distant--are well.

I loved this book and consider it one of the best books I have read in a long time. The author is excellent at weaving history, science and her personal story into a compelling book. I talk about this book all the time and recommend it to all. This would be a good book for a book club or a college course. It is never dry and always interesting.

I had to read this for a class and I loved it. It was a nice combination of history with a memoir. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants to learn about Maori culture; on that note, I do not recommend it if you're looking for a thrilling suspense story -- that's not what this is.

I liked the author’s account of the first meetings between European explorers and the Maori people and the clash of cultures. She switched back and forth between history and memoir, putting her personal spin on present day Maori culture as embodied in Seven and contrasting his views with her more Western academic-driven attitudes. Her writing is compelling and I was rooting for this couple to make their relationship work.

Great accessible history on New Zealand and author does a nice job tying history to her personal life and experiences. Author introduces the reader to initial contact of Europeans to the Maori Natives. Since she connects all the historical information to her own journey, it reads easily and gives you a ton of background.

I genuinely enjoyed the history lessons and found myself Googling many things mentioned in this book to learn more. To me, it was the perfect introduction to the Maori history and culture.The personal story that is weaved into the book felt lacking. I was left wanting to know much more about the author's husband and his thoughts about her taking on this writing project (she is a white academic from Boston; he is a blue collar Maori). Additionally, the last couple chapters felt self indulgent. I understand why the author wrote about her privileged family tree, but it felt tacky to me.In all, this is a good read, and I recommend it. I found myself talking about it at parties, sharing some of the grim facts (cannibalism) and curious history (a female Brit prisoner leaving ship to stay alone in New Zealand). It was just enough history to be interesting, and not so much that I felt I was sitting in class. Well done.

I wanted to read as much as I could about New Zealand before I went. I also enjoy history and when I travel I feel that the history gives a greater depth of knowledge and understanding of a country.

I took this book with me on a three week long vacation to New Zealand. I finished it the first week. I've picked up a few more books from her reference material. I love the exploration of cultures clashing and cohabiting. It can be extrapolated to apply to any two or more cultures trying to communicate.
