Good historical read of the governance of Australia's early convict history.Author characterises each governor by presenting both good and bad points of their personality and how it impacted on their rule.

Why am I the first reviewer of this? It has been out for 9 years, and the author is one of Australia's best known historians.Anyway, this book covers the immediate pre-Federation years to after the Great War. It is in these years that we see the concept jelling of an Australian nation. Fighting against the centrifugal trends from outlying colonies of Queensland and Western Australia. The Federation events themselves are shown to be fairly low key. Nothing really controversial.It is the Great War that really cemented the national identity. The bloody episode of Gallipoli of course. But also the more costly battles on the Western Front. Unlike the US, Australia never fought a war of independence to establish its own identity. Instead, the Great War took its place.

Manning Clark is a disgrace to the profession of historian. Like,( was it Lillian Hellman ?),every word he writes is a lie, including "and" and "the". All that can be said in favour of this volume in that the later ones in the series are even worse. To illustrate what a looney-tune this is, Clark claims the hardy and daring Indonesian seafarers were too frightened to (allegedly) sail in the direction of Australia because of tales of a speaking fruit ("Wak Wak")!. When a lunatic tried to assassinate a previous Duke of Edinburgh, he suggests a judge who was a witness to the event was sadistically looking forward to presiding over the would-be assassin's trial - shows how much he knew about law! Shame on Melbourne University Press for publishing this base, tedious, deluded, nugatory rubbish!

I hate books that don't end but leaving you hanging for a sequel a year or two later. If you can't write and entire novel, just find another job.

The story was very creative, but then there was no ending. It built to a very dramatic climax and then - nothing. The heroine simply runs away and nothing is resolved. It was terribly frustrating, and I would rather not have bought the book and not have read it, no matter how creative the story, since it did not end. Don't waste your money.

I really enjoyed this book. It was much longer and much more of a story than the others I've read my Email Brown. It gives you a chance to get more invested in the characters. Can't wait to read the next one.

Em Brown knows how to tell a spicy story. Great characters, fabulously erotic scenes, and a little romance. What else could you ask for?

This book wad such a waste. It started out ok but then it just leaves you hanging. Maybe you will eventually find out what happens to the characters.

It looks almost like paperback novel inside. Book shows thought, but is not "pretty": no photograph or color printing is used.Book is intended for pure beginner, as they say. But it does have phrases, not just words.My very large pocket safari shirt holds its width: about 4.3 inches wide, 6.25 inches high (top out of my big pocket), one inch thick, and 352 pages total.Bold print is used only for irregular stress in the pronunciation print, but Spanish itself shows that irregular stress by Spanish accent mark. I would prefer bold type on every stressed syllable, regardless of regular or irregular stress, since it is fairly easy to do that and quick to see for a beginner tourist.European Spain pronunciation is shown, but they remark how basic pronunciation would be modified for Americas.Type size is readable compact, but not tiny. Cover is as shown on Amazon: guitar, dancer, fan drawings, not tourist site photo. I think Cover should say "4th Edition", (of 2013), instead of "New Edition".For me, the best aspect is that this Book is part of a series of Spanish, French, Italian, German, so one with all 4 books could compare rather quickly the same Topics and basically the same sentences in each language book.Book is ok, but maybe it could be smaller width for the pocket size, or use color, or some buyers might prefer a bit longer book with even more words.

There are many books on the topic of RV life, but I enjoyed this book as the author took the approach that we all worry about often which is staying within our means. He also makes it a point to show that for some people it can be a big saving and not and not an expense hike. he showed the math, and though our situation is not exactly like his, I do agree with his calculation. This is a no-nonsense approach to a comfortable RV life for people like us that want the fun but on a budget of course. Two Thumbs way up.

A great resource if you own an RV, or if you are thinking of owning one. I do not own an RV, so this was a real eye-opener in terms of what I should expect to have to do if I did decide I wanted to purchase one. I now admire those who do buy one and give up living in a regular home! Whether it is going out and buying an RV, or finding where to park (even some hints on where to park for free), this book has it all. You probably won't want to read it in one sitting - take lots of notes, and follow up on the many links. Maintenance and safety are also covered well - I didn't know that those slide-out sections that seem to give you more sleeping space take up living space when you are driving around, and can cause extra challenges when driving. Well worth a read!

I'm just starting to think about the RV life and Mr. Nichols has made the decision process a heck of a lot easier. This book covers almost every aspect of being able to travel AND not go broke in the process. I especially liked how all the different sorts of RVs were covered, the BIG BOY campers caught my attention right away. It would be like trying to drive an 18 wheeler around with that one. The mathematical aspect, the savings and the costs, were nicely put together. This book shows that if you save, even just a little bit out of each paycheck, you can hit the open road. Just think no more mortgage and interest, that alone should give everyone incentive to start packing. I will definitely keep this book handy so I can begin my travel plans for the future.

This is a short, very easy read. Took me <2 hours to get through the whole book. I have no experience with RV living and this book provides a good, thorough overview of this lifestyle. One of the strongest aspects of this book is the budgeting information that it provides. After looking at my own personal situation, it appears that it would be cheaper to live in an RV full-time (which was overall surprising to me). Additionally, I like all of the links that the author provides to other resource pages. As I explore this topic more, these additional resources could be really helpful.

The details, were on point.. not drawn out or over dramatized.The drama was just right, it wasn’t to much to the point readers lose interest. It was enough to keep me reading until I finished at 1:22am knowing i have work in the morning.Lastly, the characters. I loved each 1. Especially Yazid & Mally. They were both stand up guys and no extra drama came with them. (i,e. Baby momma drama, excessive cheating, domestic violence)The girls Yari & Sage are my new book sis’s lol. I adored them.I really want to read more on Mally & Sage. At first I couldn’t stand Iris but I’m glad Mally was able to help her get her life. I wouldn’t mind a book about her either. It was a plus to see K.Y get what he deserved! (I won’t post any spoiler alerts) lol. Just know this book was amazing, and the first book I read by this author. Now I have no choice but to seek out her other releases. Great job!! And thank you for a QUALITY standalone, it’s hard to get those these days.

Wow this book is lit. I glad yari was there in the right time to save yazid. And I’m glad he found her and they have a happy ending. I’m glad sage gave mally a chance of them being in a relationship. I’m glad Iris got herself straight but it taken for mally to scare the crap outta of her from her coming on to him and trying to blackmail.i enjoyed reading ur books and I can’t wait to read more of them. Kira always bring her a game with her books and this was no exception! I really love that it was a standalone. Plus the face that it wasn't your typical drug dealer hood story. The men did cheat, degrade, disrespect, or miss treat their woman. Zid and Mally really love Ri and Sage and showed it. Iris was a piece of work but she got herself together though. This was a really love story!

I chose this rating because of all the action and entertainment from the couples, friends and families. I'm glad that everyone got a happy story ending because KARMA is a bad bitch and she always get her way. I'm glad they Iris a second chance to get self together and that she took it.

This book was so good. I love the couples and how it was based on the relationship not his street life. I was hoping that Iris would find love hopefully that ending means she'll get her own book. Great read

I am not even one chapter in, working with my 11 year old son, and it's already worth it. My son is a Minecraft nut so it's a perfect way to introduce him to programming because he already understands the "world". Adventures in Minecraft starts off with a Hello World project and moves gently along to more complicated projects, introducing concepts such as loops and conditionals along the way. My son has done some of it on his own and we've worked through some of it together, and it's great either way. It's actually going much better than I'd hoped. The hardest part was getting the Raspberry Pi keyboard to type the quote key (it was set to UK locale -- but this has nothing to do with the book; it was an artifact of the Pi environment).I was a little concerned that my 11 year old would not get it right away, but my concerns were unfounded. He's getting right into it, and that's a credit to the pacing of the book, which is just right for a kid just learning to program.

This is a well-written, detailed introduction to Minecraft on the Raspberry pi, with a focus on creating simple mods in Python. The Raspberry pi version of Minecraft is simplified compared to desktop versions, and it has just enough features that younger learners can master it while getting a good introduction to programming. I am using Adventures in Minecraft as the basis for lessons for 3rd-6th graders. We switch Raspberry pi 2 computers for the desktop machines in our lab, and work on the projects in the text; I have the students download code snippets, paste them into Python - start up Minecraft - then modify and run the Python code. Then voila! - quick and easy Minecraft mods. It's a gateway to our use of other languages like Javascript, for creating mods for Minecraft with older students.

This is a well written book and the examples are intriguing for kids who want to learn Java. However, the software this book is based upon is now defunct (I believe due to copyright issues). This makes the book completely useless. So disappointed.

Got this as a present for my boyfriend and he seems to have enjoyed it despite being in his twenties

I was so excited to get my hands on this book to explore programming in Minecraft. However right after I got it I open up to the middle and the glue binding snaps. Im mildly disappointed that I have some loose pages now. Nevertheless the content is great. I am throughly pleased with the book other than the binding on mine failing.

I purchased this book for my nephew, age 11: he loves it! Great book, great price, fast delivery. Seller is A+++++++++++++

Gives you an idea of what the book has to offer.Ornaments are the cutest ever and I love the other patterns, fair isle, Irish fisherman I have a hard time deciding which I'd want to make first.Starts with what you need for materials, abbreviations and other helpful information.Instructions are given row by row style with some chart instructions for the color work involved.Wide rows make it easier to follow the pattern. This is not basic things but if you take your time even a beginner can make these items. And for the experience knitters there are challenges to be met.Reindeer and bells for a long term project-a stocking would be my choice. And for a short term project I'd want to select the heart ornament because it could be used for many other holidays.I received this book from Storey Publishing via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion

I adore this book! I have purchased it several times and given to friends that knit. I have knitted several of the mix-and-match socks...someday I may branch out and try others in the book. I enjoy reading over all of the patterns! Some of the stockings have afterthought heels and some do not. I like that there are many options! I highly recommend this book! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

This is an excellent source for just making fun Christmas stockings and ornaments. The patterns are painfully concise - literally every row is covered. And they are beautifully diverse from the simple and rustic to elaborate and classic intarsia. There is something in here for every level of knitting expertise and for those of you who suffer from "SSS" (Second Sock Syndrome) rest assured that these are all single sock projects with no need for a pair.I have been having a lot of fun with these and find that a Christmas stocking makes a quick and ideal knitted gift for literally anyone as it serves as a keepsake & decoration and does not put anyone in the awkward situation of being forced to wear something that might be well-meaning but not to the recipients tastes.

I'm not nuts about the selection of patterns, but the patterns that are there are well-written and definitely meant to hold the less-experienced knitter's (moi) hand. Patterns in the knitting and crocheting world are usually written with just the stitches, leaving the knitter to guess what the outcome should look like. Not this little book, though their method succeeds to varying degrees. That said, pictures, in addition to the written hand-holding, for each stage of creation sure would be nice. Still, it's a good, basic book for getting started with making stockings. I don't regret the purchase.

My grandmother knit Christmas stockings for all her grandkids. The stockings had Christmas designs knitted into them along with each child's name. When my firt grandchild was born, I knew I had to keep this tradition going. I looked EVERYWHERE for a similar pattern and finally found it in this book. Somehow, between my second and third grandchild, I misplaced the book! I was delighted to find it at a bargain price on Amazon.com. And I know exactly where it is to knit my fourth stocking this year!

Love the patterns inside and love the cuteness of the book itself. I love knitting, love Christmas, and love knitting Christmas stuff so it's natural I'd like this book. Also, I like books that are very specific when it comes to knitting, such as this one or One Skein books or lace projects, things like that. I hate buying a book for one pattern and none of the others are useful. This one is cute for a gift or yourself!

This book is full of things I allready know. Like my job was killing me. Still it was refreshing to read because it validated my fears of how bad a toxic job is. The plus side of this book is highlighting lots of key points and marking pages with particularly damming and accurate statements about your workplace... Then leaving the Book in public view at you desk for all the other miserable coworkers and supervisors to look through and comment on. Sometimes the toxic workplace needs to be called out for things to change.

This book was just what I needed to read to re-orient my perspective about my current job situation. I think it will be helpful for a lot of people in this day and age of "If you still have your job, be grateful, get paid less and work harder". With that kind of pressure, I really needed a guide to help me see more clearly and elevate my morale.

The Author definitely has a deep understanding of the negative effects that work can have on your health. I particularly liked the idea of thinking of your career as a collage rather than a photo (i.e., designing a composite career).I was distracted by all the feminist references. For example, "Bobbie" feels she has disappointed her family because they expected a boy. The Author explains that women are treated like second class citizens despite being "better students and more productive employees than men" and that women have been told all their lives that they are "less valued and valuable than their brothers". The book also tells the sad tale of "Marianne", a closeted lesbian, and her "homophobic VP".All of that may be true, but it doesn't relate to the topic of overcoming burnout and revitalizing your career. The book was useful, but would have been better if the Author had stayed on-topic.

En febrero del 2000 Toxic Work cayó milagrosamente en mis manos en el momento justo, cuando mi vida profesional como ingeniero en sistemas estaba provocándome problemas graves de salud.Gracias a Barbara y su libro pude tomar distancia y rediseñar mi vida profesional, familiar y personal. Pude crear un plan de acción para lograr alejarme de mi anterior profesión y re-crear mi existencia como instructor de buceo primero y propietario de un centro de buceo en una ciudad mediterranea, a más de 1000 kilómetros del mar más cercano. Y eso en el tiempo que Barbara garantizaba en su libro, 18 meses.El capítulo dedicado a diseñar un nuevo trabajo "Career Wish List Exercise" me resultó súmamente práctico, y gracias a lo sencillo del método pude armar una empresa totalmente nueva e inexistente hasta el momento en mi país, Argentina.Desde entonces he difundido e inspirado a mucha gente a animarse a tomar las riendas de sus vidas y re-nacer profesionalmente.Gracias Barbara

Toxic Work is the first reference book in the career section which has a bibliography worth reading. The book not only does all the work for you by collecting and organizing relevent resources, but provides a wealth of examples. The author doesn't give pat answers, but takes the reader through the problem-solving process. I found the book empowering because it provides the structure and information I needed to generate a successful game plan. I became proactive, and am happily employed at the same job that sent me to the book store looking for an escape.

Toxic Work is a wonderful resource. I have used the book as a required text for both my graduate level Managment Training and Development and Human Resource Management courses. My students, without exception, rave about the content. Dr. Reinhold's humor and insight have provided me and over 100 of my students with a great set of career problem solving tools and a teriffic bibliography. I keep hoping that there will be a sequel ... perhaps Toxic Two. Keep them comming.

I didn't find this book very helpful. The author seems to recommend leaving your job more often than I expected. . . if I wanted to do that, I wouldn't be reading this book. I wanted to learn how to FIX the problems that are there.
